Hi there, I'm Scott Reusser, the longtime administrator of the arts and education program here at the grads. Harvard Grad School of Education. I work with faculty Directeurs, Steve Seidel to keep this program running.
As you may have read on our website, The Arts and education program is designed for self directed learners who want to leverage the breadth. Of course, offerings at HTSC and elsewhere at Harvard to become affective practitioners of and advocates for Arts Education Arts based education initiatives, both in an out of schools and with learners of all ages.
As a student in the AAE program you will develop analytics skills, and reflective practice is foundational to your work in arts educations settings. You will forge powerful creative partnerships with classmates and professional relationships with arts education organizations.
Then you will explore the relationship of the arts to learning communities of various kinds as well as to other sectors in education, such as the cognitive Sciences, the technology sector and the public policy room.
The AI program is unique in its ability to appeal to a wide variety of Arts educators.
It is not an artist, Conservatory workshop or uh strictly prescribed training program for people seeking teaching certification in the visual or the performing literary or media arts. The AI program welcomes people who are already certified or who hoped to become certified someday. But AI is essentially a meeting place. I think tank for arts educators interested in working the arts into all aspects of the education sector.
A place for reflective and analytics study, as well as for the development of skills relevant to various aspects of Education Field.
That is why we like to say that a IE encourages the multidisciplinary and multicultural application of the arts in various educational settings. As such, we welcome applications from aspiring and experienced educators from all artistic walks of life, including those interested in arts and Integration Museum Education Curriculum Development Arts Policy Research.
After school arts programming or the use of the arts with significantly challenged populations in prisons homeless shelters hospitals and special education settings.
We should add here that not all AOE students are first and foremost self identified artists with a capital A.
Yes, many are dedicated artist as seen in the plethora of children's book illustrators. Poets actors string instrument. Players dancers multimedia performance artist and filmmaker's have graduated from the program. But many professionally identified in other ways. All applicants share a deep and abiding interest in the relationship between the art and learning.
