Prevention science and practice is a one year. Masters program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education using a prevention science brain work. PSP emphasizes applied practice, the heart of the program is a year long field based practicum or research experience that allows you to combine both learning and doing.
Students participate in PSP via one of 3 distinct strands prevention research prevention practice and counseling.
The Prevention research strand train students for educational research program development and evaluation gaining experience in research and preparation for doctoral study and broadening their purview as prevention practitioners and teachers. Students who choose the research experience are matched with the PSB faculty member and actively take part in that faculty members research.
The prevention practice strand train students to work directly with children or youth across a variety of settings, including schools nonprofits and community based programs. Students who choose the prevention practice. Trent take part in a practicum experience where they are matched with their partner in school or community based organization focused on prevention and promotion.
The counseling strand trained students to provide school based counseling services and related activities in school students who choose the counseling strand concentrate their course and field work and preventative and developmental counseling through a practicum experience in a school setting.
This strand me additionally be used as a foundation for a second year of HGC graduate study Torah Certificate of advanced study in counseling. This is a CSS in counseling that leads to initial Massachusetts licensure in school counseling or just my counseling.
