Hi I'm Scott Reusser, the longtime administrator of the arts and education program at the Harvard Graduate School of education as you already know if if you listen to the three other segments of this recording.
I work with as you know from the other segments with faculty directory stepside. Dow on all aspects of the program, including recruitment and new students.
We've noticed that uh some of the most successful applicants. Today, a program are those who come already familiar with programs designed purposes and values.
They care deeply about equity and access to the arts in educational settings.
They also care deeply about the quality of Arts Learning Experiences. Whatever setting they're in successful applicants believe the collaborative learning atmosphere. They find in the AI program will enhance their ability to work with groups of various sizes in the field.
They appreciate the programs emphasis on including the arts in a wide variety of educational settings and its wish to address the marginalization of the arts in many schools.
The majority of AI students come here after a few years in the arts education field, perhaps from jobs and Museum education programs. International education projects or non profit after school arts education programs to further develop their skills and work toward positions of greater responsibility and influence.
Some more experienced students enroll in search of a reflective retreat to recharge and rejuvenate and maybe to change career direction.
There are also usually some students in a IE who are fresh out of college students who were involved in community arts education projects of some kind spent time an international exchange programs with arts education projects or became involved in arts education courses in college or research projects, having to do with the arts and education.
There is a broad age range in heavy any given a IE cohort.
In one way or another all of these applicants have been able to demonstrate in their application. Not just the sense of mission, and purpose as arts educators of various kinds, but also an aptitude for the rigorous writing and reading demanded of students at HG SE.
They might have demonstrated that aptitude in their statement of purpose in which they shared both how they see their broad personal and professional interests and goals as well as their specific reasons for wanting to study in the a program at HTSC at this time.
Why here why now why you?
They might have demonstrated it in an undergraduate transcript that list courses, which in all likelihood required a good deal of reading and writing.
They might have demonstrated it in supplementary writings from research projects in reports.
In the letters of recommendation from at least 1 academic mentor and one work site supervisor to the applicants academic aptitude, character and commitment to arts education is always useful.
There is no minimum required set of GARE scores nor any specific requirement that a student have a bachelor flying arts or a degree in education.
The AOE program welcome students from a wide variety of undergraduate disciplines as well as a wide variety of geographic locations.
What most AI students have in common? Is an interest in the multidisciplinary rolls for the arts in various educational settings?
