In the prevention science and practice program, you will choose between 3 distinct curricular strands prevention practice prevention research or counseling. Regardless of your strand choice. You will complete a minimum of 32 credits over the course of the academic year.
The PSP program is unique as you may earn 2 degrees within PSP. There's the Masters in education or the EDM in prevention science and practice or the certificate of advanced study CS in prevention science and practice counseling. The CSS as a postgraduate degree offered exclusively to graduates of the counseling strand of the PSP program.
For students that participate in the prevention practice or the prevention research strand. This is a one year program. However, students in the counseling. Strand have the option of pursuing CS in their second year, leading to initial Massachusetts licensure in school counseling or adjustment counseling.
The curriculum itself consists of one core course and Prevention size in practice this risk and resilience courses taken by everyone, regardless of your strand you will then take part in a yearlong practicum course or research experience. The practicum courses are connected to your strand choice and determine your field of research placement.

Students in the counseling strand typically pursue RCA S in counseling and must take the courses required for licensure. PSB is a program that is endorsed by the Mass Department of Elementary and secondary Ed or Desi and in order to obtain your school or adjustment license. Depending on whether you seek licensure as a school or adjustment counselor you can expect 3:00 to 4:00 free electives over the course of two years. This practicum experience allows you to gain hands on experience in the field as well as to buy new knowledge to real world applications.

Students in the prevention practice tree and will take part in a field experience. That's 8 to 10 hours per week. This typically takes place in a school community based setting nonprofit or Community Center.
Students in the research strand will take part in a research experience for 18 at 8:00 to 10:00 hours per week. Research typically takes place with a nationally recognized PSP faculty member.
