The teacher education program begins in June with an intense blend of course, work and field work you will take for summer courses focusing on teaching methods in your **** and area adolescent development, special education and issues of race in power in urban schools.
You will also team teach for 6 weeks in the Cambridge Harvard Summer Academy, implementing a project based curriculum.
The Summer Academy is a partnership between Harvard University and the Cambridge Public Schools.
Your students will be rising 9th through 12th graders from Cambridge and some surrounding areas. These students take classes for credit recovery or for enrichment.
During full term, you will spend 2 days a week at your assigned school site observing throughout the school and gradually taking on increasing responsibility in your mentor teachers classroom.
You have completed series of assignments with your field advisor. There, based on the community. Cultural wealth model and are designed to support your learning about the context and communities in which you will be teaching.
You will also take a methods course in your content area and of course on teaching emerging bilinguals.
In addition to these required courses, which fulfill a state requirements will take 3 electives such as ethnic studies in education universal design for learning adolescent literacy.
Bilingual learners or family and school partnerships.
You can take these electives at the Ed School at other Harvard schools or at MIT or the Tufts Fletcher School of Law and diplomacy.
During the spring term, you continue at your school site now full time with lead responsibility for teaching one or 2 classes.
You can take Harvard courses during the spring term as well, or you can choose to fully concentrate on your student teaching.
Upon completing program requirements and testing the state licensure exams will receive your Massachusetts teaching license with a great deal of support and assistance from the licensure unit within the career services office.
