Let's go and thank you and I'll hand it over to my colleague Andrea Awesome. So I'm going to provide a little overview of the office of student affairs, so as I mentioned I'm the international student program coordinator. So our students can probably attest today, if you choose to join us here. Human probably hearing for me a lot, but mostly our office support students through 1. On one support and referral so as you'll see in the next couple of slides that are a ton of resources here at Harvard.
Uhm but really the role of myself and my colleagues to help you navigate your time here at HGC, an at Harvard in general, so we cover a large scale events like orientation. Commencement also large community wide events. Typically, those are social in nature. We also work. A lot with diversity inclusion and belonging efforts here is Jesse. My colleagues and I really want to make this community a welcoming and inclusive space for all students really, for students of all identities and backgrounds to feel welcome and supported here in the community.
Um so we also cover disability services so if you're a person with a disability or office can help you to set up the necessary accommodations, so that you can participate fully here, HTC we also help a lot of clubs and organizations. Get started in organized throughout the year so typically we have over 40 registered clubs and organizations that are started by students. So you can visit our website. I put our website here at the lower left hand corner of the page to see all the clubs that have currently formed on one side have also formed in the past, so you can get to know people.
Abay Zhussupbekov

Hello from Almaty,Kazakhstan
Adinda Ambarsari
07:36:14 AM
How long does orientation usually take for new students?
Maybe with similar interests or start your own club. We also help students with housing so while HDFC does not have our own housing. We do provide support in navigating the resources that are here at Harvard for housing or if you just are looking for maybe some advice about al off campus housing apartments in the area. The surrounding neighborhoods of Cambridge. We're happy to help provide advice in that area as well, and then of course, as I mentioned my main priority is supporting our international students.

Ernald Furxhi
07:36:53 AM
Welcome everyone. FYI, this session is being recorded so you can all refer back to it in the future.
And so I do run programming throughout the year that is specific to international students and really just to help really beginning in the summer to help people transition to life here. It's juicy and then throughout the year to allow you to integrate into the community get to know each other. I run weekly lunch and learn sessions or almost weekly lunch and learn sessions where all choose a topic of interest for international students for example, we're having some workshops coming or in.

Hi from Senegal
Nchu Ogar
07:37:11 AM
how much approximately does a new international student require to come in with as a beginner on admission?
Sorry. In October, we had some workshops around conversations, you know, informal conversations here in the US how to navigate those will talk about class participation and also just forming a negative and really preparing yourself to speak in the classroom or in interviews settings. We also have group outing so we didn't. Apple picking trip earlier this year. We take students to the outlets to get all their winter gear and prepare for the Boston winter.
Aziz Radwan
07:37:35 AM
hello
Social gatherings, we do pub night. Some we do potluck events academic support as well. So I work closely with the writing center and around finals time, we do kind of right in sessions. Where will have peer tutors available for students to really improve the academic writing or ask questions to get those final papers done and then I also send weekly emails to all international students about upcoming events here at Harvard or in the Boston area. So you'll see that there's just a ton going on here at Harvard and it's hard to know.
Exactly where to look some time to look at all of the different opportunities. So I tried to condense that and select some for our international population that I think are most relevant or of interest and then I'm always available for what I call coffee with Andrew is really just a time. Anytime you want to come grab coffee or tea. You can make an appointment with me and we can chat.
Um so I also want to go over some more resources that are available through Harvard at large. So I also work closely with the Harvard International Office. So this is the best source of information for international students who have questions about maybe immigration or piece of questions. They also have great new student guides on the website so as a perspective student. Those can also be really helpful. Just to give a sense of the resources available here to international students could the career services office.
Buhari Aliyu
07:39:13 AM
Hello
So this is an office at HGC that help students even before arriving on campus to both identify their career goals and plan their job search. So they provide access to job search platforms that job postings and I work closely with them throughout the year to develop programming. They frequent our lunch and learn sessions to maybe talk about certain things about the job search that may be specific to the US and then counseling and mental health services so this is an excellent resource here at Harvard.
Christine Ha
07:39:24 AM
Hello!
And we encourage all students to take advantage of it. Um it's a part of the Harvard health insurance package that most students will get up and it's great for especially international students going through a large transition to the US to have a counselor that they feel comfortable with, and have access to throughout the year should anything come up.
This Center for Wellness is one of the hidden gems that I always like to plug to students as well because they offer you know, guided meditation sessions and offer yoga Pilates. And they also offer massage and acupuncture sessions at a discounted rate for students so it's good to know about especially around finals time.
Swofiyah Chambers
07:40:13 AM
Are International students allowed financial aid?
Buhari Aliyu
07:40:32 AM
Hi ! What are the academic Requirement ?
Also, the academic Resource Center, so they provide tutoring and academic coaching to students across Harvard University, so should you want to meet 1 on one with an academic coats. You can set up an appointment at the academic Resource Center or if there's a subject that you're interested in getting additional support around there are tutors available. I also want to say we do have academic coaching available through the office of student affairs, so that's always an option to as well.
And then the HTC writing center, so this is an excellent tool for students who are looking to take their writing to the next level. They can really help students to strategize for assignments and just really make the most of their academics here.
OK, so if you haven't you can tell already there's a ton of ways. You can you know get involved and be supported here at Harvard as I mentioned we do have over 40 student organizations that form annually. Another great way to get involved is through the annual student LED conferences. So I've listed a few of them here. One of the first ones that's coming up this year is the alumni of color conference, so this convenes alumni students partitioners artists and scholars from HTC.
Zuchuan Liao
07:41:29 AM
Hi again! It's Leo Liao from China. Also known as Liao Zuchuan. Nice to see you all!
And around the country to share best practices in research around diversity equity inclusion and especially as it pertains to supporting students of color in educational spaces.
We also have the student research conference, so that gives um HGST students, the opportunity to present on their research or their work receive feedback and also you know share and discover the work of their peers.
Zuchuan Liao
07:42:06 AM
I want to ask how do I know if my GRE and TOEFL scores are reported successfully.
The China Education Symposium is a student LED conference that also convenes researchers and scholars. Practitioners from all over China, it from all education sectors to come together here at HTC connection. Shares that's a really large conference that usually takes place in April and then we have the hive pitch competitions. So hive stands for the Harvard Innovation in ventures in education, so this is a student group that Unites students and alumni across Harvard.
Gerda-Marie Van Onselen
07:42:21 AM
If applicants apply before the due date of 5 January, will you be informed about the outcome of your application before then?
Around education innovation, so throughout the year they connect students with resources mentors workshops to help students develop their own entrepreneurial ideas and ventures. And then at the end of the year. They culminate with a big pitch competition where students can pitch.
Ideas and then potentially when funds to start their ventures.
Um student council is another way to get involved. So Student Council students elect representatives from each cohort to represent the student body work with administration and planned events that are of interest to each kowert. The equity fellow program. It's also a great way to get involved. So this is a select group of students who work together really to address issues of diversity here at Harvard. Actually, yes, one of our Equity Fellows. You wanna say a few words right now got it.
Adinda Ambarsari
07:43:20 AM
Do we have to pay like membership if we want to join one of these community programs?
Sherona Simpson
07:43:35 AM
Good morning. I would like some information on employment statistics of graduates of the PhD programme.
Uh yeah, um so I am part of the equity and inclusion fellows at Um Hussey. But I'll work doesn't just stay in the house, he campus so we also have opportunities to facilitate dialogue and discussions that cross the campus. Whether that's at the law school or at the Graduate School Arts and Sciences and it's a great way to. I think get to know, people that are interested in diversity equity inclusion and in the fall. We have an actual class that we take for credit and then the spring will actually be working on projects in the community as well. So I'm really looking forward to that.
Ernald Furxhi
07:44:06 AM
Dear Adinda, there is no additional cost to participate in these programs.
Awesome great. Thank you, um, so yeah, and then as I mentioned you know University wide student groups are not just limited to HTSC. UM groups and organizations. You can look beyond HTC to larger harbor wide groups and really get to know students from other schools as well, and then Askwith forums is another great great events to keep an eye on, but they are usually lectures and guest speakers who addressed high priority issues an education and those will happen frequently.
Nchu Ogar
07:44:42 AM
There are a duplication of websites for the University and Faculty. How do one know the genuine one to apply and upload credentials?
I mentioned a few of these already but these are just a list of cut some of the community wide programs that we offer so will have you know like kickball tournaments trivia nights. I mentioned we did. Apple picking and Wrentham outlet shopping already will have tickets available to Red Sox games that students can purchase at a discounted rate guest speakers double take is like a story telling event which is really, really popular, though most of the whole community gets together and we listen to students and staff and.
Xiaoyu Yin
07:44:54 AM
There is even an Outings to Red Sox Games WOW!
Faculty tell tell personal stories, UM, which is a really fun events like I said pub nights. Usually the day before Thanksgiving will have an all community Thanksgiving Lunch, an it's served by the staff in the office of student affairs, so that's a really fun way to to get together as well.
Ernald Furxhi
07:45:09 AM
@Sherona unfortunately I don't have those statistics handy. Please email the admissions office. I will say that employment rate is very very hig.
Lily Kim
07:45:15 AM
Do international students get 1-3 years of OPT after graduating from the TIE program?
Sherona Simpson
07:45:22 AM
Thank you!
Ernald Furxhi
07:45:41 AM
@Ji Yeon. TIE is STEM designated, so yes.
I'm so pretty much the message here is that Harvard is resource. Rich you know, there's a lot going on. There's so many opportunities to enhance your experience here for example, we have crossed registering as well so even academically. You can expand to other schools here at Harvard or to surrounding schools in the area like MIT. Seminars film screenings really there's always something going on which is why I tend to send those newsletters to really condense all of those opportunities to make sure you are making the most of your time.
Here we also have something called the January term or the J term for short so this takes place during the January break and many of our students will take advantage of this time to take another class whether it be non credit bearing or credit bearing is really just a time to focus on that one course and get some professional development as well.
Daniel Morgan
07:46:09 AM

07:46:39 AM
Hi from Vietnam, nice to see you all.
Zuchuan Liao
07:46:40 AM
It's really hard to get to this website from China...you need the VPN
OK. So pretty much with all of this going on. Uh we really encourage students to think about what it is. They want to get out of their experience with over that be academically. Co curricular Lee Co Curricular Lee personally and really be strategic about your goals for the for the year or the multiple years. If you're choosing a PhD program because the time does go quickly as the students will likely attached so it's really good to be strategic about what you are your goal is in coming to HTC.
Santiago Fernández García
07:46:49 AM
Hi! I'm Santiago from Colombia and I would like to know more about Harvard traditions and what is the reason all masters program are just one year?
And with that I will turn it over to our students to talk a little bit about their experiences here, HTC so far. Maybe we'll just start with a question about the community? What were your expectations before coming to HTC about a life here or your peers and what have you found to be true?
So I said, Well, you are first this is Filippi.
Gerda-Marie Van Onselen
07:47:22 AM
I would just like to rephrase my question - as the applications close on 5 January and it says that applicants will be informed before end of March about the application process - will applicants be informed before the end of March?
Actually, I think the expectations were wild. I expected to find the people from the community from that came from many different places and be able to get a lot from it, but all expectations were pretty much overwhelmed. Once I got here. I mean, the community is so much bigger you have people who will take you in your cohort becomes Michael has been so supportive so many things so inventive in terms of the activities we do.
Ernald Furxhi
07:47:58 AM
@Gerda-Marie, decisions tend to be released during mid-late March.
Steve Adingo
07:48:01 AM
Please I want to know if I require TOEFL to gain admission into Harvard to pursue PHD?
Lily Kim
07:48:03 AM
Would it be possible for students to stay longer than 1 year?
That you got this in air quotes downside of being here is that the community offers so much to do that. You constantly have to choose you constantly have to select what you want to do anything when Andrew says that you have to be very strategic about what you do. That's not only something you do at the beginning of the year or something you have to do all the time because the community just offers so much. I mean right now. I'm with the hive group. I'm part of the amended reality and virtual reality.
Yasu Pant
07:48:28 AM
Is there any possibilities of joining the Phd scholars circle in educational leadership program
Gerda-Marie Van Onselen
07:48:33 AM
thank you Ernald
Daniel Morgan
07:48:49 AM
Thank you Stephen for this question I need annswers too: Please I want to know if I require TOEFL to gain admission into Harvard to pursue PHD?
Reality club there's a board game club. There's a soccer club of so many things. It's just it's nonstop. Yeah, I think for me, it isn't like mine. Master so like I think for me? What helped was even taking advantage of the community. Even before I got on campus. So Anastasia and I actually a part of the group that kind of formed out Facebook group before we got here, so even the months leading up to it as we were making decisions as we're trying to navigate like the whole process of moving here that was really helpful to already lean on the community for support and get.
Janet Kipova
07:48:57 AM
Heeey. Anastasia is here. Such a surprise. I'm subscribed to you! You made me interested in this program actually
Disha Dassani

07:49:12 AM
What is the international student ratio for masters programs?
All the sleep nice emails from you. I like how to navigate that transition. and I think even coming here you know as Felipe is that it's the hoses coming but also beyond the heart larger. Harvard community like I'm part of an acapella group at the college and that's been really fun to kind of at the same time also part of groups mindful eaters group and the purpose lab here at policy as well so that's been nice, so span that larger community, but still have a home based here, yeah, and actually speaking over the vents preparation. It's true that for some events you need to prepare.
Daniel Morgan
07:49:32 AM
Is there fany inancial aid or scholarships to pursue the Phd in Educational Ladership?
Mohammad Saber Ghafori
07:49:35 AM
i must want study my master degree at harvard uni.
Ernald Furxhi
07:49:59 AM
we'll address all of these questions at the end.
Before, you probably even arrive on campus. I'm part of the aisle apps. That's Harvard Innovation Labs Incubator program, which is a semester long program that you can renew every semester, applying again to it, but the first time that I applied. The application was due sometime in the 2nd or 3rd week of August. So I literally flew in mid August and then I had one week to apply for this program that was before the orientation week, so you have to start planning early for some things.
And I also just added if um for me. I actually met my best friend on my first year here as a master's student so back in 2014. So I did both the Masters and PhD program here and we lived in on campus housing and we went through a crazy winter together and it was really fun. But she's a student from the school of Arts and Sciences. So I probably would not have met her otherwise and yeah, so you will meet people from.
Ernald Furxhi
07:50:34 AM
keep typing your questions though and i'll add them to our list.
All over just because you're at HTC doesn't mean that you're confined within limits of Appian way.

Alright so we'll talk a little bit about housing uhm. I just want to preface this by saying there's there's nothing. You can currently do for you know housing applications or anything like that. At this moment but it's never too early to get a sense of your options here, so Harvard University. Housing is one of the first options that a lot of our students will take advantage of these buildings are owned and operated by Harvard University. So Harvard access kind of like your landlord so if you choose Harvard University housing there are apartment styles.

Is there any essay publication requirement for International students applying to PhD in HDLT concentration?
Ranging from studios to 3 bedroom apartments that you can often choose from. I separated out one of the options here, which is Cronkite residence Hall because it's a little different in setup than most of the other options here at Harvard. It's a resident residence Hall setup so the building is for single students and there is a required meal plan. That is attached with this package, but a lot of our students, especially international students do like this option because it is the closest to HTSC.

And all of the rooms are fully furnished you don't have to worry about you know, bringing furniture and some other buildings here at Harvard are furnished as well. But you'll have to kind of look more closely at the descriptions of the apartments and the required meal plan also is appealing to a lot of students so they don't have to worry about about cooking while they're here for all Harvard University Housing. There's a lottery. Process students with families are often given priority in the selection so that they can get a little bit more of access to the.
The larger apartments, um, but other than that students who apply for Harvard University housing will be entered into a lottery and given a number to then selected their Top priority units. The next option is GSA S residence halls so GSA S or they Graduate School of Arts and Sciences alot.

Um about 20 beds for HTC students, so there is a lottery process for these rooms as well. And they are also similar to Cronkite. Their single student occupancy and they often come with a meal plan. And then the last option. Obviously is private rentals. So you can see here from the map at the bottom right that our students do live all over so a lot of students do live here in Cambridge, but a lot of students also commute from the surrounding neighborhoods. So it is possible that the public transportation here.

07:53:41 AM
what is the average GRE score required for admission to PhD in Education?
In Boston is pretty good, so if you get yourself, you know, we call it the T. These are Metro so if you get a T path. You can commute pretty easily to Cambridge and again. The Office of Student Affairs is happy to help provide recommendations about surrounding neighborhoods and maybe what our students have done in the past, but do you all want to now just share a little bit about where you're living currently? I'm sorry maybe one more slide and that will be that so we also want to just put a little plug in for the graduate comments program.
So this is another benefit to living in Harvard University housing so this is kind of the community life side of living in Harvard housing, so you know they run events for not just students, but also their families, so they'll have book tux movie. Nights guest speakers family outings really just all sorts of things going on to help build community within the residences here at Harvard. So if you want to learn more there's a great little video here on this.

do we need to apply to all or one at a time ? just to ensure we get an accommodation on campus
Short and length you can take a look at that. Also, if you go to the information and resources for spouses partners and children on the Harvard International Office website. That's a great way if you're traveling with a family to get more information on resources in the area available and then with that I will open it up to our students to talk about where they are currently living in maybe their experiences so far.

Community events social events, but I've also been for really good book talks as well that you can kind of just show up 'cause. It's in your building and that's been really nice cousin. Ice is a graduate student. You're just running around doing all these different things. And it's nice to just plug in to those options that are offered and just a bit rocky buddy. I think it really depends on what you want to do it? How you want to live while you're here, but I really enjoy like cooking. An peabodys within your Trader Joe's, and Whole Foods Ann and just a bunch of index agent supermarket in central so it gives me a lot of options select buy groceries and cook.

So that's how I ended up choosing that and just living near the Charles River. It's really nice. An overall I want to jump in and say that I have experienced both living on campus, which I do now. On Prescott St location, and before when I did hovered summer summer school I lived off campus like 40 minutes away from here and I would strongly recommend living on campus. There are so many things going on. Sometimes you can be out of your door at 8:00 o'clock in the morning and not come back home until 10 at night.

But I really encourage everybody to look at the bus system as well. Charlie card that you use to get on that E so if you really want to move around Boston or Cambridge and the surrounding areas. I really encourage you to look at both of those options as well. And that opens up your the actual range where you could be looking for housing around the campus.

It's a 15 minute walk, but sometimes I want to get to campus in like 5 minutes and then I just take a bike and with Harvard Harvard ID. You do get a discounted rate for unlimited bike rides for the whole year, which is really nice. 'cause I sometimes you just want to buy a bike or like have to worry about. That and blue bike is a great way to Cambridge is a Viking City, so it's really nice.

Where do most international students in the PSP Program find employment upon graduation?
Not a sub camping, Oh yeah, I I live off campus. But I I think that everything is been pretty much cover. It's just that, if you live off campus. The advantages you have a little bit more diversity in the types of housing that you get an probably a little bit more diversity in price range as well so depending on your budget. You might be better off finding a route room to live in an apartment with multiple bedrooms with other with other folks in the area, or a little bit outside. I currently live in Waltham, which is about 20 minute drive from Cambridge.

I'm curious whether most seek a job in the states or return to their home countries.
It's not too far, you can take the bus. There is also the commuter rail that goes there, so it's really not as far as it looks on the map and you can get cheaper prices over all but I've also lived in Cronkite, an coppers wait so on campus and it was really useful when I was just starting off my life here.
It's not faint also we had a couple of questions and one of them was specifically by the specialized studies program. If you could talk a little bit about your experience in the program and what your career goals are.
I've loved it, Oh this is so prior to this, I was actually running a social enterprise in Singapore in Asia. I think and working in the space of Education. But I wouldn't and I still teach a Class A week at a college but I wouldn't be considered like you're asking more traditional like being in the education space will specialized studies was really. I think perfect for me to blend the things that I care about into a program that made a lot of sense for my goals, so that looks like being able to we have a lot of flexibility in how we register for classes so.

Even in the this semester, I've taken half my classes at hug see but also I'm taking classes at the Kennedy School and MIT and a lot of that thread that runs through my programs. 'cause it specialized studies. You do have to kind of when you apply let you know the emissions know what you're kind of looking to focus on and for me. That was leadership community advocacy and civic engagement, so those are all the courses that I've kind of been looking at in tying that together but I loved it and it's also there banana staging office. I myself come from an educational content, creator for YouTube background. and I came in here, thinking about scaling Mai initiative of educating teachers about the neuroscience and psychology of learning through institutional channels. However, I think as many people who join our program. Once you start a semester and you get the feedback from the whole community hugs Yanne Beyond and you hear people.

The website doesn't state that there are any, but is there any possibility of dual or concurrent degrees (say, HGSE Masters along with a Master's in Public Policy, or Non-Profit Management)? Thank you!
You know after running an organization for the last few years, taking that time to step back and connect the dots. It makes sense along doing but also explore possibilities for the future. So just some advice for those that are interested in the specialized studies program as someone that reads applications in the specialized studies. I had the pleasure of Reading. Both Anastasi's and cheese fries, so one of the important.
One of the so one important thing to keep in mind is that Specialized Studies is great for those whose interests are so unique that they don't fit in any of the other Masters programs so that's the number that's the first criteria that we consider when we evaluate application so if there's anything else in the program.
That would meet your educational needs essentially the Specialized Studies is not the right program for you and also keep in mind that regardless of which Masters programs. You do choose you will have the flexibility to take free electives essentially so courses outside of HTC. You could even take a class at MIT. Just like she is doing right now, so those opportunities exist for in the other Masters programs as well. But Filipina there's also another question here by the TV program so we'd love to hear a little bit about your experience in the program.
And also what your career goals are after you graduate so the experience I've had in the program has been actually and it mirrors bit what day was mentioning right now.
I came in with certain ideas of how to focus mycareer through hugs. Ian afterwards, um. I did do the career success workshop. That's offered before we come to hug Z and that really helped me focus a lot of what I want to choose what courses. I want to choose I always hear the technology innovation medication program is really broad in the sense that you can focus in many different areas in focus, it on child dedication. You can focus it on adult education higher education.

Exerting it is starting all the options all the possibilities that were here. I really went through a bit of a shock. It was like a child going into a candy store with so many options is so many courses. I want to take some things. I want to learn the actually changed shifted a lot of what I was planning on doing so right now. I'm also very cautiously focusing my efforts. I'm still in the realm of adult education. I'm still in the realm, using technology to reach as many people as we can.
Yangyang Zhu
08:06:24 AM
Can I apply for the PhD program without research experience?
Um the target is shifting at this point, and uhm. I do want to say that intrapreneurship is well. The constant ideas around TI around a lot of my classmates, not in my case, specifically but there is a lot of strong very strong sense of building your own venture in T, which is really, really vibrant really dynamic so I do really want to mention that.
Excellent thank you so since we're going with the program specific questions theme. There's another question here about the PhD program and the question is how much prior research experience in publishing, a research paper for example, in an academic Journal is required in order to be admitted to the PhD program so the answer to that is that in the admissions process so that's that's not required for you to have that, but having some exposure to research methodology having.

The masters program does not clearlt
Experience sort of doing high level research could have been through your work or through your undergraduate studies or perhaps another Masters that you may have done that is certainly important to sort of be able to show to the admissions committee that.
You sort of know what you're getting into you don't necessarily need to show that you are an expert researcher Right 'cause. You know at the end of the day, the PhD program is meant to train you to become a researcher and so, so essentially.

Hello from Greece
Just being aware of what doing research means that is certainly going to be a key part in the admissions process. The most successful candidates have had some exposure to doing research essentially but not necessarily having published in journals. Marian is there anything you'd like to add to that many perhaps I think so, your own experience or your classmates. I completely agree. Absolutely don't have to have published anything before entering a PhD program. In fact that's what you're going to do as if you should student an afterwards right so.

Does the GRE score count for so much in the admission process?
If you have that's wonderful but if you haven't that's totally fine. As long as as you said. You know you have some background in research so for me, I wasn't Masters student prior to entering the PhD program. and I was given really good advice of taking statistics classes. So I took what you'll discover as as 12:30. It's a sequence to get basic and intermediate statistics skills. And so that kind of is a good thing to put to show that you kind of know what it is to seduce.
Basic quantitative research if that's what you're going for in your PC program. Of course, you might be going for qualitative research which is totally fine, too. So so there's that I was also a research assistant during the time that I was a master's student so actually during the J term. I started working as a research assistant and that kind of gave me some exposure into what the very, very beginning levels of research look like and that was really useful, but also outside of being a master student and before that. I was a pre K teacher and during that time I was approached to be part of this very short.

What about master program of PSP, is it also US focused?
A few questions so regarding interviews, so interviews are required for both of our doctoral programs. But they're not required for the Masters program so that's something to keep in mind. Another popular question that we got from the chat, but also the questions that people submitted in advance is whether it's regarding the testing so the tofel. I'll tore the GRE so the GRE is required for everyone, regardless of prior degrees may have or the.
Years of work experience or the types of work experience and so is the Toefl or Isles.
The only way to get that awful or Isles waved is that so the requirement is that your undergraduate studies must have been completed at an institution where the sole language of instruction was English.
So I want to emphasize that not one of the languages of instruction. But the sole language language of instruction was English and so there are obviously if you graduated in the US. That's great. You don't need to submit so for Ielts. But there's other educational institutions throughout the world where the sole language of instruction is English and so even in countries where English is not the primary language and so, if you have questions about that. Feel free to email us in admissions if you're not sure.

Can I apply for both HDLT and EPPE program?
I mean, I would just add that I had friends from all over including from Columbia from India and it's really funny how as a Moroccan person you know, there's a lot of things that I thought were specific to Moroccan culture and then I found out to be actually that's so specific to Moroccan culture but to sort of a lot of of cultures around the world that are maybe more collectivist type of cultures and it's really, really.

Bundit Kertbundit
08:14:59 AM
@Ernald 25 students per concentration in total (i.e. the entire cohort)? Or 25 students admitted each year for one concentration?
Ernald Furxhi
08:15:01 AM
@Jayde, you must choose ONE concentration. The applicaiton won't allow you to select more than one.
Um nice to just have people who understand you and who kind of have similar ways of giving giving their time their NRG listening to you being there for you as if they were family and you can find people like that here whether they're international or not, but, yeah, it's really wonderful. It was probably the only Moroccan when I first got here and now there are many more. And many more people from my region but also from from.

Is there any specific scholarship for international Master's students?
Ipsita Mishra
08:15:22 AM
Dear Ernald,
Regions that are that are generally under represented in here that you would find that they would find people from all over the world. Yeah, 2nd would you just said because I feel that the community is so well integrated we don't really think about ourselves as international versus local idea. It's really a good mix of everyone wear well at least I feel most people feel really included in this whole thing.

08:15:31 AM

Elvira Bano
08:15:31 AM
@Zuchuan : Based on my experience, once you have passed the test then you could access the result test on your id Ets.
Excellent so someone had a question regarding internships internship availabilities or on campus employment.

08:16:07 AM
Hi! My country, Chile, is in a state of social turmoil right now, I’m not sure I’ll be able to get my transcripts in time, can I have an exception for the application process?
Is anyone here able to speak to that from personal experience I can speak to the to the when the term started we everybody started looking for internships like crazy it was there's an internship fair here at the at the school which is a really dynamic really it's impressive how many organizations both internally hosting at Harvard and external organizations were looking for interns?
So the the scope of options is very, very broad.
Zuchuan Liao
08:16:36 AM
@Bano yeah but you need to report it to HGSE through ETS
Uhm but you don't only have to go through you don't only have to work as a as an intern you can also, if you focus specifically on Harvard. You can also find the on campus employment, which is a really interesting thing because we can do anything from helping out at the library to working on specific research projects, so in my case. I didn't take an internship this term. I'm thinking of taking 1 next term, but this time I decided to do some on campus work, helping out with the teaching and learning lab.
And it's a really interesting experience because you're kind of like the the the wild card in the in their staff in the sense that you can do. Your not answering so you don't have to submit a project you're floating employee so that you can actually play around with different projects you get exposure to a ton of stuff and that makes it a very interesting experience because you don't really you get exposure to other things that you would never really find either in the classroom or with the.
Katherine Peng
08:17:39 AM
Will the admission office consider applications based on the applicants' school? Like which university do they come from?
Or with a specific internship so that's another thing that you can do you can just find unemployed you can find employment with something that you're interested in and that's what I did in just it helps you get different ideas do something that you would never really do outside of outside of your normal normal process.
Elvira Bano

Can we avail for customized admission consultant who would guide me through the application?
So we had some questions here about scholarship opportunities and so before I open it up to any students that want to talk about their own personal journey and finding different scholarship opportunities. So I do want to say so. Both doctoral programs are fully funded and so you don't need to apply for scholarships for the PhD or the DLD program. the Masters program so there are several sources of funding there is.
There is need based aid so in order to be considered for that. You must apply for financial aid and the deadlines are on the website and with instructions on how to do that. And so I don't have a slide on that for this presentation.
Disha Dassani
08:18:53 AM
Multiple scholarships can be applied?
But Essentia Lee you do have to apply for need based aid. The maximum award is 18,500 for need based but there are also merit based scholarships that you could apply for some of them are through the same application form. As so the admissions application essentially but on the financial aid website. There are other resources available some depending on the country. You're coming from and it does have a very healthy list of different international organizations that provide.
Emily Seeber
08:19:08 AM
What is the stipend for PhD candidates and how does it measure up to living costs?
Another interesting thing about HTC as an international student. You are actually able to also take alone without needing AUS cosigner so typically in the United States. You do need a US cosigner to take out a loan. But since we have our own Harvard Credit Union here at the University. We do work with them and they will provide last year ability was up to $16,000 loan for international students without needing a cosigner.
Zuchuan Liao
08:19:47 AM
I’ve checked with my GRE recipients and I reported to 3903, but HGSE said its code is 3428
So with that is there any tips that any of you might have for international students it. It's OK if you don't? I was a Fulbright. Another Fulbright scholarship for my Masters. So I would definitely encourage you to take a look at that it's you know it's either. All sort of fun between the UK government and whatever country you're from. It's it's pretty much everywhere. I think the only thing is that it takes about 15 months for for the scholarship to be in effect, so it's something that.
Meirav Fleischman-Alaluf
08:20:10 AM

Hi! I am very interested in the PhD program with concentration in Human Development, Learning and Teaching but I wish to "customize" this with a sub-field in Linguistics? is that possible?
You would have to take into consideration and also even though I got the full ready wasn't enough to cover all of my expenses. So I actually got a scholarship from the Harvard Arab Alumni Association. So if you come from a country that's considered part of the Arab world. I would definitely recommend checking it out because they do give I think for me was about $14,000 so I would definitely recommend that great, so we do.

Ok! I’ll send it with my TOEFL scores
I have 10 minutes left and so the way our system works is that it will cut us off in exactly 10 minutes. So we are not able to extend the time so I just wanted to touch base real quick on the visa process that international students will have to go through to arrive here and so it's we do advise a student sort of prepare for this process very early or as early as possible so I'm assuming that you're applying to multiple schools and.
Elvira Bano
08:21:30 AM
@Zuchuan : read the instruction in the application, foe HGSE has code.
So you will be you're likely going to be admitted somewhere so whether it's Harvard or anywhere else. Will still need to go to the visa process and typically for HTC the way it works is that you received your offer of admission, you submit your deposit and you save your seat, essentially and then you have to go through something called the financial certification process in order to complete that you'll need a bank statement typically those need to be in USD currency in the account so that's a typical requirement for most.
Disha Dassani
08:22:01 AM
How long does it take to know that I have secured a scholarship ?
Institutions students need to be the account Holder up and also there are sort of outside scholarship letters that will be able to accept but we don't accept all sponsorship so if it does internationally known organization for example, or an organization where our students have received funding from them previously will be able to accept those letters from them directly as sort of in lieu of a bank statement for example.
Emily Seeber
08:22:15 AM
If my husband is a US citizen do I apply for a student visa or a spouse visa?
And so that's something to plan ahead for as well. And so the website at the very Top also does give you a very nice sort of step by step process for obtaining your student Visa and you'll have to obviously choose between the F1 student visa or J1 Visa and there are specific stipulations on those which are listed on the website above as well.
And we encourage you to also plan ahead for long wait times the longer you wait to submit your financial certification. UI 20 application. The longer it's going to take for you to be able to request a visa interview. And so the longer that takes the wait time. Speaking to get longer in the summer and so this is in this slide. You'll be able to see sort of a timeline.
For obtaining your student visa right so let's say we submit you submit your documents on May 25th which is typically when we begin to process I 20s for students.
If everything is in order if your application is complete by May 25th you could theoretically have your visa in hand within a month and that's because you'll likely be one of the first people to request visa interviews. And so you will be the one to get in front of the visa officers.
First essentially and so keep in mind that once you submit the document. It's going to take us. Some time to process them You have to verify your documents make sure everything's in order. You'd meets all the requirements and then we have to process the documents and then we have to ship those to you so you are now looking at about 3:00 to 4 weeks from the point when you've submitted your documentation and so again the sooner you submit these things and then the sooner you'll have the required documents in hand.

What if I have insufficient amount of money to show on the bank statement? If I received financial aids.
But really quickly, 'cause we only have 7 minutes left. Is there any sort of advice to see all went through one shape or form through the visa process any advice you might have for students from your personal experience.
But I have UH-2 quick tips so one is a bear in mind that you don't necessarily have to apply in the same embassy where you live any embassies will accept your application irrespective of whether or not. Your resident in the country. I was applying in Austria. And when I came here actually heard from the international officers someplace here. Then they the Austrian embassy is very efficient at processing visa applications. So it literally took me less than 48.
Ernald Furxhi
08:25:00 AM
@Emily, your husband's citizenship is irrelevant. It will depend on your own visa status and whether it allows you to study in the USA.
Hours from the time, like I took I wanted to get the appointment and then 48 hours to get back my password with the visa stamped in it, so if you are running out of time you might be wanting to shop around and see where the wait times and the processing times in different embassies around and the other thing is I personally made a mistake. 'cause I went. I waited until the very last day that we were required to submit the financial certification and I feel like this putting at the very end of the processing queue. Queue here at Harvard. While I was hearing from my classmates on the Facebook group that those who submitted their final.
Yeah, certification right away, they already got their I-20 back so do not wait until the step line and we are going to have sort of more as we progress through the admissions process. We are going to have webinars again in the future. There will focus specifically on you getting a student visa so this is not going to be the last time they hear about it. So just really quick. We are going to have future webinars. And I'm listing here some upcoming events as well so make sure that you stay tuned at the email invitations and they go out.
And we tend to put a lot of our recorded sessions just like this one. This is being recorded, it will be emailed to all of you and but we do encourage you to visit the website above.
To view any sort of existing webinars that have been done in the past.
An other than that, we encourage you to also visit the admissions blog as well.

And otherwise maybe OK, so do I need to submit a letter from my University stating that English was the sole language of instruction. Thank you very much for that question and so, if it's on the university's website. You can just point us to that page and that's sufficient. But if it's now we do need a letter on the University state stating that English? What is the sole language of instruction? Is there an age limit the answer is no, the average range in work experience is 0.

And in fact, uh you know, we, we consider that a privilege for someone with that amount of work experience to be in a class you can imagine sort of how much the other students that might have less work experience will be able to learn from that person's background so.
There's a question for Merriam, one a couple of people here didn't hear the name of the scholarship if you mentioned for the doctor was the Fulbright.
